HAIR TRANSPLANT BASICS QUESTIONS

What is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)?

Technique: Hair transplant method where hair follicles are individually removed.

Donor Area: Hair follicles are extracted one at a time from the donor area.

Division: Not applicable as individual follicles are directly transplanted.

Transplantation: Follicles are implanted into the thinning or balding areas.

Ideal for:

• Those preferring to keep hair short

• Smaller procedures

• There is no linear scarring

• There is no visible scarring, allowing you to keep your hair as short as you like

• The recovery process is quick

What Is Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)?

Technique: Hair transplant method where a strip of skin with hair follicles is removed from the donor area.

Donor Area: Typically the back of the head.

Division: Strip is divided into individual follicular units.

Transplantation:Units are transplanted to thinning or balding areas.

Ideal for:

• Finer hair textures

• Short hairstyles at the back

• Quick recovery

• Extensive hair restoration needs

Which Is Better FUE or FUT?

For the thickest and most natural-looking results, both FUE and FUT procedures are highly effective. However, FUT may not be suitable for individuals who prefer short hairstyles. Similarly, candidacy for FUE depends on hair density. At Springs Hair Restoration, we are experts in both techniques and can guide you in choosing the most appropriate method for your needs.

Which Is the Most Preferred Method of Transplantation?

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) are the most preferred method; punch grafting is not done these days; mini-micro-grafting is done in some centers, but is inferior to FUT.

What Is A Graft?

Graft is a unit of hair containing 1/2/3/4 hairs.

CANDIDATES AND TREATMENT AREAS QUESTIONS

Who Is The Best Candidate for Hair Transplants?

Ideal Candidates for Hair Transplants Hair transplants are most suitable for men in their late 20s to 40s. Younger individuals, particularly those in their late teens or early 20s, should undergo thorough counseling. At this stage, baldness patterns and future hair loss are not yet fully established. Moreover, young people often worry excessively about hair loss and may opt for surgery prematurely for small patches, resulting in multiple transplants. For instance, we have encountered a young man who underwent four hair transplants before turning 22. It's important to remember that hair transplantation is a solution for baldness, not for minor hair thinning. Early-stage baldness should be treated with medications before considering surgical options.

Do Women Also Experience Baldness? If So, What Iis The Treatment?

Yes, women can experience baldness, often due to female pattern hair loss, which is typically genetic. Our FUE Hair Transplant system offers a tailored solution for women, with no need to shave your hair and no linear scars post-transplantation. PROCEDURE AND RECOVERY QUESTIONS

How Long Does the Surgery Take?

The duration of the surgery varies and is customized to each patient's unique requirements. There is no fixed timeframe, as our surgical approach is tailored to meet individual needs. An accurate estimate can only be provided after a comprehensive evaluation during the consultation, ensuring we deliver the most appropriate and effective care.

How Long Will the Transplanted Hair Last?

The transplanted hairs are permanent and will retain their original characteristics, offering lasting results you can depend on.

Is Hair Transplant Surgery Painful?

Your comfort is our top priority during the procedure. An anesthetic will be used to ensure a painless experience. After the anesthetic wears off, you may experience mild discomfort at the surgical site, but this can be easily managed with medication and is generally tolerable. If you experience increasing discomfort accompanied by a fever after a few days, please contact your surgeon immediately, as this could be a sign of infection that requires prompt attention.

How Many Days Are Required to Stay in the Clinic?

Hair transplant surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home the same day, provided they are cleared by the surgeon. However, if the surgery is conducted under general anesthesia, an overnight stay may be required. The specific approach to surgical hair restoration varies among surgeons and will be determined during the consultation.

Should There Be Any Extra Care for the Transplanted Hair?

It is recommended to avoid exposing the surgical site to any trauma. Avoid combing the area while it heals to prevent dislodging the grafts. Once fully healed, you can comb, wash, dye, cut, and even shave the transplanted hair like normal. At Springs Hair Restoration, Dr. Zack will provide detailed instructions and a printed post-surgery care guide for your reference.

How Many Times Will I Need to Visit the Clinic After Surgery?

Most practices advise once or twice for follow up. After that, any doubts can be sorted out by phone calls or email.

But at Springs Hair Restoration we go over and beyond throughout the entire process, we maintain close contact with our patients, conducting regular follow-ups at various intervals:

• Usually twice a week for the first month postop

• Then every 3 months up to one-year post-transplant

Our commitment to patient care extends beyond the surgical procedure, as we strive to address any concerns or issues that may arise post-transplant. Moreover, we diligently reach out to every patient who misses a follow-up appointment

Would There Be Any Side Effects?

Yes, like any surgical procedure, hair transplant also comes with risks and side effects. These can include, swelling, redness, pain on the surgical site, and shedding. You can decrease the likelihood of these side effects from occurring through proper technique, preparation, and after care. Shedding, on the other hand, is a side effect that you should not be worried about because shock loss is to be expected a few weeks after surgery. New hair growth will eventually develop after post-surgical shedding.
